Coronavirus Updates

[Updated August 31]

Happy first day and welcome back.  Recently, the District of Columbia State Athletic Association (DCSAA) announced that LEAs will have discretion over how to resume preseason athletic activities for the 2020-2021 school year.  While LEAs have been given permission to phase in preseason athletic activities beginning September 1, please know that DCPS will continue preparation and discussions about how and when we may safely resume athletic activity.  For now, all DCPS athletic activities remain suspended.  A reassessment on the resumption of athletic activities will occur in October and updates will be shared as soon as they are available.  Please remember that all school campuses remain closed for preseason workouts and athletic activities.  Coaches and Athletic Directors should continue to virtually engage with student-athletes and encourage them to continue working out and practicing at home if they can do so safely.

[Updated August 18]

With the recently announced information from the DCSAA relative to student-athletes engaging in Voluntary, Non-Contact, Skill Development under the supervision of certified coaches and Athletic Trainers, DCPS Athletics is reviewing the DCSAA guidelines to put the best protocols in place to make sure a return to activity is safe for our student-athletes and coaches.  While the DCSAA announcement indicates a September 1st start date, DCPS Athletics will provide the start date for member schools once approved.  At this time and until a start date has been established, the current summer Dead Period on workouts remains in effect.  DCPS Athletics will take the next several weeks to finalize safety protocols, ensure facilities are safe and provide school athletic directors and coaches with the necessary guidance for our student-athletes to return for safe participation.

[Updated April 21]

We understand this is disappointing for everyone involved and look forward to the day when education-based athletics resumes.
